Join Poplarville in Supporting Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

Whereas, more than 47,000 children and adults in the state of Mississippi have an intellectual or developmental disability; and

Whereas, people with intellectual or developmental disabilities share the same desires as other Mississippians including goals in education, meaningful work, and independent community life; Whereas, Mississippians with intellectual or developmental disabilities have the ability, and the right to work, worship, learn, and enjoy life wherever they choose; and

Whereas, Mississippians with intellectual or developmental disabilities contribute significantly to their schools, families, relationships, neighborhoods, faith communities, and the workforce; and Whereas, people with intellectual or developmental disabilities deserve the total support, respect, and acceptance of all citizens of our state; and Whereas all citizens are encouraged to recognize the unique strengths and contributions of people with intellectual or developmental disabilities and that they enrich the state of Mississippi and make it a better place to live for everyone.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Louise Smith, Mayor of Poplarville, Mississippi, hereby proclaim the month of March 2023 as

INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES AWARENESS MONTH

In the city of Poplarville, Mississippi.
