Board of Alderman Workshop Set for Street Projects

During Tuesday Regular Called Board of Alderman Meetings, a workshop was set by the board for street projects.

During the meeting, the Board was addressed by Jason Lamb of Walker Associates to discuss two bids on street projects. The bids came from Warren & Warren Asphalt Paving LLC and Warren Paving Inc. Both provided quotes for 3 sites. The Overlay of McVay Dr. & W. Lamar, W Lamar Ave and N. Columbia Street.

Warren & Warren Asphalt Paving LLC quotes are as followed:

McVay Dr. & W. Lamar – $47,322.

W Lamar Ave. –  $34,160.

N. Columbia Street –  $83.790.

Warren Paving Inc quotes are as followed:

McVay Dr. & W. Lamar – 70,426.

W Lamar Ave. –  $37,471.

N. Columbia Street –  $80.548.

The Board wants to budget N. Columbia Street is under $75,000. A workshop between board members will be next week to discuss funds. No matter the case after that workshop the board will be fully stuck with a commitment.

Police Chief Chad Dorn awarded Officer of the Quarter to Bert Martin. Martin from January 2023 to the present has written 107 citations. The department as a whole has written 298 citations. Accepted a bid from Stribling Equipment LLC for $112,261 for the purchase of a backhoe for the Public Works Department.

In other business, the Board approved hiring a Street Labor for the Public Works Department. The Fire Department will surplus their old Hustler 23 mower for a new one. There were also three events approved.

Poplarville First Baptist will carry a cross from McDonald’s to First Baptist Church on Good Friday, April 7th from 8:30 until 10:00.

Shirley Wiltshire, President of the Blueberry Jubilee council, will use the Town Green on June 9th from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and June 10th until 4:00 p.m. for the annual Blueberry Jubilee. Friday night they will have entertainment and vendors will be there on Saturday.

Jacob Cochran, director of the Sweet Mississippi Tea Festival, will use the Town Green on October 6th and 7th from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. to hold the Sweet Mississippi Tea Festival.

The Board went into executive session to discuss potential litigation relating to zoning; City Hall, Court, and Public Works Department-
Personnel matters. The next Board meeting will be on April 18, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. at the City  Hall.
