A man involved in the 2022 armed robbery of a Dollar General store has been sentenced following his guilty plea.
On April 5, 2022, an unidentified male entered the Dollar General on Highway 43 North, a location known as Wheat’s Curve. The man, later identified as Arick Poupart, selected a half-gallon of chocolate milk and a carton of grapes. After approaching the counter, Poupart displayed a firearm and demanded money from the register. He left the store with the cash.
The following day, employees at another Dollar General near Henleyfield McNeil and Highway 43 North reported a suspicious person. Deputies arrived and found Poupart hiding behind a dumpster. He provided false identification and was arrested after marijuana was found in his possession.
Authorities reviewed surveillance footage, gathered physical evidence, and obtained a confession, leading to Poupart being charged with armed robbery. He was later released from jail after posting bond.
On September 10, 2024, Poupart pleaded guilty to simple robbery. The Circuit Court sentenced him to 12 years, with eight years suspended, and to be served as post-release probation. Poupart will be eligible for parole or early release after serving 50% of his sentence, which will make him eligible in approximately two years.
