A man identified as James Ray Saucier was shot and killed outside the Pearl River County Chancery Courthouse in Poplarville, authorities said.
The shooting occurred just before 1 p.m. Tuesday. Sheriff David Allison identified Tanya Saucier as the suspect. She is currently in custody.
According to Allison, the couple had attended a divorce hearing earlier in the day, which concluded before noon. After the hearing, Tanya reportedly waited in her car for James to leave the courthouse. James was shot multiple times outside the courthouse and was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:47 p.m. by emergency medical responders. Despite attempts by first responders to revive him, they were unsuccessful.
“We are working closely with the District Attorney’s office to file charges,” Allison said. He thanked first responders and courthouse staff for their quick actions, adding, “This is an awful outcome, and we want to lift the family in prayer.”
Coroner Derek Turnage confirmed that James Saucier suffered multiple gunshot wounds. An autopsy is scheduled to take place later this week in Biloxi.
