Incumbent Poplarville Mayor Louise Smith holds a narrow lead over challenger David Glenn Boline in the Republican primary, earning 184 votes (51.4%) to Boline’s 174 (48.6%), according to unofficial results released Tuesday night.
With all precincts reporting, the results remain unofficial until certified. No Democrat or independent candidates qualified for the mayoral race, meaning the winner of the Republican primary is expected to take the office following the general election.
In the Republican primary for Poplarville Board of Aldermen, five candidates advanced to the general election. The top vote-getters were:
- Brad Wells – 225 votes (13.8%)
- Russell Miller – 207 votes (12.7%)
- Byron Lawrence Wells – 199 votes (12.2%)
- Bobby Nestle – 193 votes (11.8%)
- Anne Gendussa Smith – 174 votes (10.7%)
Clifton Worley, who received 160 votes (9.8%), did not cut.
Those five Republican nominees will face Democrat Janie P. Richardson in the general election. Richardson, the only Democratic candidate to qualify, automatically advances to the ballot.
