A fatal crash on Interstate 59 claimed the life of a Picayune man Wednesday, Dec. 18, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP).

The incident occurred at noon near the Poplarville exit at Mile Marker 29. Officials say a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro, driven by 66-year-old Nathan Boone, crossed the center median while traveling northbound and collided with a southbound 2025 Volvo semi-truck. William Baker, 74, of Smyrna, Tenn, drove the semi-truck.

Boone sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. No updates on Baker’s condition were provided in the initial report.

The crash caused intermittent delays in the southbound lanes as emergency personnel worked to clear the wreckage. Motorists were advised to use caution while traveling through the area.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. As more information becomes available, it will be released.
